I went to the hospital to have my swollen lymph nodes examined. The results showed that I had nasopharyngeal cancer. This was in February 1997.
The doctor said that 4–5 courses of concentrated radiotherapy could cure me within 2 months. On hearing this diagnosis I agreed without hesitation. The therapy, however, caused me severe nasal pain and a troublesome dryness of the throat.
I could not sleep, and my general condition was getting much worse. I lost about 10 kilograms. Then I went through chemotherapy — 500 ml intravenously. I felt very weak.
