A year ago, my newly married wife and I were pouring all our determination and energy into building the life we had always dreamed of — and into welcoming our first baby. I naturally took it upon myself to make those dreams happen. I was so caught up in it that I barely noticed the changes in my body, or the way it was reacting. Then, three months ago, the pain in my tongue finally forced me to see a doctor.
Being diagnosed with early-stage oral cancer came as a shock — and learning I would need surgery to remove half of my tongue was something I never saw coming and could not control. What made it even harder was the timing: it happened just before my first child was due. Even so, the encouragement of my wife, my friends and my relatives stirred up a strength in me to fight the cancer.
On a relative’s advice, and after reading up on cancer myself, I decided to start taking Chinese Tian Xian Liquid No. 1 about ten days before the operation, alongside the surgery. Every time I finished a bottle, I would check the mirror to see whether anything about my tongue had changed. I was hoping this herbal medicine might work some kind of miracle and make the surgery easier.
The day before the operation, a scan showed that the cancer on my tongue had shrunk by a centimetre. Because of that, only a small part of my tongue had to be removed — little enough that it would not affect my eating or my speech. The post-operative biopsy found no further growth and no spread, so the doctor simply asked me to come in for regular check-ups and to change my everyday diet. No chemotherapy or radiotherapy was needed.
Looking back, I feel as though God spent those three months testing me. Once I understood what my life and my family were truly worth, He pointed me in a direction and showed me a brighter future. Having been through this, I understand how much health — and the people you love — really matter. I am strong enough now to wait for my first child to arrive, and I finally know the joy parents feel when they see their baby born. I am confident I can give my child a safe and comfortable home.
Above all, I want to thank my wife for everything she gave to our family and for standing by me when I was so ill. Because of her, our home is full of hope and happiness. And I will never forget to give my thanks to Chinese Tian Xian Liquid No. 1.
