The Diagnosis: Metastases to Liver and Lungs
I had surgery for an enlarged prostate, and a year later a tumor was found in my bladder, so on my surgeon’s advice the bladder was fully removed. Six months on, doctors assured me there were no metastases and I felt reasonably well — until Christmas, when my condition deteriorated drastically.
In about a week I lost 15 kg and could not eat at all. Tests revealed numerous metastases to my liver and lungs. It felt like the end.
Chemotherapy Was Not Possible
I could not care for myself, so my family drove me to the oncology hospital, where doctors tried to stabilize me enough for chemotherapy. Despite repeated attempts, my creatinine stayed several times above the level any cytostatic drug would allow.
