The Diagnosis: Rectal Cancer
In autumn 1996 my stools grew gradually smaller and bowel problems caused severe pain. In February I noticed blood in my stool and went to hospital, where I was diagnosed with ulcerative rectal cancer.
Over two months I had radio- and chemotherapy and left hospital when symptoms eased.
The Cancer Returned
In 1998 the rectal cancer returned. An endoscopy showed the tumor had grown, confirmed by a CEA marker of 7 mg/ml. I was too old for surgery, and my family was very worried.
